A recent newspaper report in UK revealed the increasing dependence of people on internet. Accordingly 38 percent of dog owners confessed that they rely on their computers than on their dogs. The findings of the research gave new light on the changes in the life styles and attitudes of the modern generation. The newspaper quoted Paul Allen, editor of the computeractive magazine who initiated the studies with Royal Society For the prevention of cruelty to animals as this: “with broadband bringing them global news and newspaper sales falling, the family dog even misses out on the pleasure of taking the paper to the owner”. Reading in between lines, the newspaper report reflects the importance of broadband and internet in the lives of people. In the course of 50 years the essential or unavoidable requirements of the common people have changed considerably. Broadband has found place in the list of essential things that families want. Those who demand unlimited broadband are increasing rapidly. Access to internet will be considered as a basic human right in the near future according to some social scientists.

In UK the broadband market is very vibrant in response to the growing demands. There are visible trends to indicate that the people are anxious to have more efficient and reliable broadband services in the country. There are more than 250 internet service providers who offer broadband to the consumers, who can choose appropriate packages to suit their requirements. ADSL is the widely available broadband connectivity provided through telephone cables. The services are cheaper when compared to the cost of broadband prevailing in other countries in the continent. In the midst of such confusing signals there is a silver lining for optimists to acknowledge. Increasing number of optic fibre networks in the country will be able to solve these problems of broadband hungry consumers in the near future. Super fast broadband will be available to the consumers at reasonable costs when the present plans of the government are implemented.
