Bowel movement is the process of eliminating body waste and a regular bowel movement is necessary for good health. Different people have different regular bowel movement. Some have it twice a day, some have it every morning and some have it every 2 days. Whatever schedule you have, the most important thing is that you eliminate regularly. People who are suffering from constipation often have fewer than three times bowel movement per week; they also have a difficult time passing out stools and they have this feeling that they haven't fully emptied their bowels. The stools of a constipated person are often hard and dry making it difficult to pass out of the body. Difficulty eliminating body waste can be really disturbing. It is important to achieve freedom from chronic constipation to feel better and eliminate the discomfort.
Most people gets constipated at one time or another and usually lasted for a short period of time but if you are experiencing chronic constipation, there are things that you need to do to achieve freedom from chronic constipation.
Consult your doctor. Long lasting or chronic constipation may need medical attention. Constipation is more of a symptom than a disease. There are medical conditions that can lead to constipation like pregnancy, IBS or irritable bowel movement, diabetes, hypothyroidism and nerve or muscle problems in the intestine, rectum or anus. It is important to seek professional help to know the underlying cause of your constipation and to know the proper treatment that will work for you.
Add more fiber to your diet. Lack of fiber in your diet can lead to constipation. People who are busy tend to eat fast foods or processed foods which are low in fiber and may lead to constipation. Eat high fiber foods like whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Dried fruits like prunes are also high in fiber. Lack of fiber is the most common cause of constipation. If you want to achieve freedom from chronic constipation, you may need the advice of your doctor or dietitian to meet your daily fiber needs, usually 20-35 grams daily. A high fiber diet helps form bulky soft stools that are easy to pass. Abrupt change to high fiber diet may result to temporary gas and bloating so it is important to slowly change your diet to let your body adapt to the changes or ask your doctor's advice.
Exercise regularly. Aside from lack of fiber, lack of exercise is also another common cause of constipation. It is not good to remain inactive or to live a sedentary lifestyle. Regular exercise or regular physical activities will not only make you healthy but it will help your digestive system stay healthy and active. If you want to achieve freedom from chronic constipation, keep an active lifestyle. Engage in daily exercise or physical activities you find enjoyable like cycling, aerobics and swimming.
Increase fluid intake. Not enough liquids or dehydration can result to constipation. Fluids can make the stools softer and easier to pass so to achieve freedom from chronic constipation, increase your fluid intake. Fluids include water and fruit juices but avoid caffeinated and alcoholic drinks because they can promote dehydration and could worsen your constipation.
Drink lots or water or fruit juices to alleviate constipation.
It is important to achieve freedom from chronic constipation to regain your normal bowel movement and feel better.
