Acne is a general term used for eruptive disease of the skin. This skin condition affects up to 80% of people in their teens and twenties, and up to 5% of older adults. You may sleep with silky skin one night and get up with a red pimple on your face the very next day, YUCK!! Sometimes you won’t even know the reason. Acne comes in different forms.

  • Mild acne: It refers to the whiteheads and blackheads that are very common.
  • Moderately severe acne: This includes red inflamed pimples called papules and red pimples with white centers called pustules.
  • Severe acne: This causes nodules which are painful, pus-filled cysts or lumps that usually appear under the skin.

The reason acne haunts teenagers is due to the aftereffects it leaves behind - the scars. The smallest pimple can leave a stain which is imprinted on your skin for years. Acne scars fall in one of three categories: depressed-type scars, raised scars and skin discoloration.

Most people develop depressed-type scars which appear as saucer-shaped indentations in the skin. Raised scars tend to be the most difficult to treat as they appear as uneven bumps on the skin. Skin discoloration appears as red, pink, brown or purple dots while pimples heal. This type of mark eventually disappears, and therefore isn’t technically a scar, but it still can be treated. Fortunately, there are treatments (natural and artificial) that help you to reduce or eliminate acne conditions and acne scars.

Although there are hundreds of acne treatment products, there is no medically recognized cure for it. Most of the time, acne home remedies work better than other acne treatments. They are economical yet effective. The following are some home remedies for acne and acne scars:

  • As one of the reasons for acne is dirt, extra care should be taken regarding cleanliness. Wash your face at least twice a day with salty water.
  • Honey is a natural moisturizer helpful against scars.
  • Egg whites are a cheap and natural and effective way to treat acne scars.
  • Apply cucumber masks over face, neck and eyes for treating pimples and blackheads.
  • Coriander and mint juice combined with a pinch of turmeric powder is a helpful home remedy for treating pimples.
  • Lemon juice is best to reduce the size and intensity of pimples.

There are countless more remedies for acne and its scars, but most of the time, acne goes away with time no matter what you do to treat and prevent it. So, teenagers shouldn’t worry as this isn’t something permanent.

If you wish to treat acne you may try Resveratrol which is basically used to treat wrinkles. It consists from a grape extract - a powerful antioxidant. Or you need to manage your diet eating lots of fruits.
