Aldara cream is a family of medicine called an immunomodulator because it contains the active ingredient imiquimod. It is a medicine which is used for the treatment of skin problems like genital warts, actinic keratoses, and small superficial skin cancers. It works by binding to immune cells in the skin which causes immune cells to release natural defence chemicals called cytokines. Genital warts are caused by HPV that is human papilloma virus, it stimulates the body to attack the virus. Superficial skin cancers occur when skin cells increases in an abnormal and uncontrolled way. Actinic keratoses reffer to rough and hard area on skin that is caused by sun damage. It is a prescription medicine used for the treament of skin problem like warts around the anus, external genital warts, superficial skin cancers and actinic keratoses (rough areas of skin caused by sun damage). Before taking this cream you should know full information about the medicine. Do not take this medicine without consulting your doctor or health care professinal. If you are allergic to Aldara cream or to its ingredient you should avoid taking this medicine as it may result into some serious side effect. The main ingredient of this cream id Imiquimod. Aldara cream is recommended for external use only do not use on wounded, broken and burned skin. You should inform your doctor if you are suffering from weak immune system, autoimmune disorder, graft-versus-host disease and recently received a bone marrow transplant as you need to dose adjustment for this medication. Note, if you are pregnant or lactating mother you should avoid taking Aldara cream as it may harm the health of the new born baby or nursed child. This medicine should not be used below 12 year of age. You should inform your doctor if you are taking any prescription, non prescription and herbal medicine to avoid any interaction. This medication also have some common to serious side effect. It is a prescription medicine and should be used as prescribed by the doctor or health care professional. The recommended dose for Aldara cream is 2 times in a week. It should be applies on the affected areas. Before using Aldara cream hands and the affected area should be washed and dried properly. Store this medicine at room temperature and in a dry place, away from the light heat and sun. Keep all the medicines away from the reach of the children and pet.
