Is this the month, the week, the day you decided to lose weight? To get healthy? Perhaps it's the first time you've decided this. Or like so many of us, it is well beyond the first time. So many times we say this is IT, I am really going to do it this time. Do something different, take control, make an ACTion plan. n
Create an ACTion PLAN for your LIFE so that your weight loss and/or any other dreams you have do come true. Take control of your thoughts, habits and eating, and be ready to empower yourself, one day at a time. After all, you can, and deserve to achieve your dreams.
Many of us make changes to our eating habits but not our thought process or the habits that make us turn to food. You can make changes while you are learning what brought you to this point. If you don't learn about yourself and your habits, unfortunately the weight you lose may not stay lost.
Before we get started, I have two questions for you to think about; don't worry if these questions take hours, days or weeks to answer.
Is your weight preventing you from living the life you want? Not just physically but emotionally as well.
What benefits do you get from being overweight? Be aware that if you didn't get benefits from it, you wouldn't be overweight.
The ACTion PLAN for your LIFE should include learning about yourself and what triggers you to eat unhealthy. By unhealthy, I mean eating too much of any kind of food, or eating when you aren't physically hungry. I don't believe there is a good or bad food; I think that we get results from what we eat and do, period. You make choices based on the results that you want, not whether it's good or bad.
ACTion PLAN for your LIFE!
Imagine that you are making a movie of your life, you are the director, and you have complete control over anything you want to have happen. Your life, the choices you make, and the results are all up to you. It's exciting and it can be scary.
Depending on where you are in your weight loss journey your ACTions may be very different from others, this is a good thing. This is YOUR ACTion PLAN, for YOUR LIFE, no one elses.
I will share with you my plan and what I want to have happen, my movie if you will. I am giving myself 12+ acts, one for each month so that I don't get overwhelmed. Each ACT can have multiple scenes. If I can do more than one ACT a month, great, but at least there is no extra pressure.
For me I want to refocus on activity, so as the director I am shooting ACT 1 first. You will notice that I put what I want to do (very simply) next to Activity. I then break it down in more detail, how often, when, for how long, etc. You can shoot bonus scenes so that you have more ability to edit and make the movie (your life) exactly what you want. Remember you have the final cut, what you don't want/like can be left on the cutting room floor.
Act 1 Activity (moving my body, to feel good about myself).
Scene 1 Leisurely activity, walking Homer (my Dog).
On nice days I can walk Homer, for at least an hour, if not I will do some other activity to equal 1 hour.
Scene 2 Moderate activity, walking on the treadmill. Place pictures of places I want to walk/hike (mountains, etc) in front of the treadmill for motivation. A vision board.
Scene 3 Intense activity, the elliptical trainer.
No matter what happens with Homer or the treadmill, I must do at least 20 minutes 3x weekly. It is a great cardio workout.
Scene 4 Leisurely to moderate activity, exercise bike. Get on bike while watching TV in evenings at least 3x weekly (it makes my knee feel better)
Scene 5 Strength training, work out with my trainer (weight training). Lean muscle leads to great strength, healthy bones and a healthy body.
Bonus Scene Park far away from the stores, take stairs instead of elevators or escalators. Make extra trips up and down the stairs at home. If I have extra time, get on the bike or the treadmill for even 5 minutes, every move helps.
For your dreams to become reality take and make an ACTion PLAN for your LIFE! As many ACTs as you have, create Scenes to make them happen. Remember they don't all have to be shot in a day and you can add scenes and delete scenes as your life/movie goes on.
To stay focused and continue creating your movie, sign up for ACTion for your Life! A Tele-Class held on the first Thursday of every month.
