The OBD2 (or On-Board Diagnostic) system is a system that can measure engine functions and diagnose engine problems. It's done electronically by connecting an OBD2 scanner to the OBD2 port in the vehicle, and the OBD2 system is incorporated as a standard in all cars manufactured from the mid-90 onward. The OBD2 system provides almost a 100% complete engine control and can also monitor parts of the chassis, body and accessory devices, plus the diagnostic control network of the car. OBD-II provides a universal inspection and diagnosis method to make sure the car is performing to OEM standards as set by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). An Actron scanner conforms to the EPA standards. All vehicles manufactured since January 1, 1996 have OBD-II systems. Manufacturers started incorporating OBD-II in various models as early as 1994. Some early OBD2 cars were not 100% compliant, but if your car is manufactured later than 1996 it will have the OBD2 system incorporated. Installing and Using an OBD2 Scanner Such as an Actron Scanner in Your Car It's very easy to install an OBD2 scanner in your vehicle. All cars equipped with the OBD2 system have a connector fitted close to the driver's seat in the passenger compartment, probably under the dashboard or near the ashtray. This is also true for an Actron scanner. To connect the OBD2 scanner to the car's OBD2 system simply plug the scanner cable into the OBD2 connector.rnThat's all there is to it. Couldn't be easier! Your car is now equipped with a scanner that can monitor the engine system, and you'll instantly know if there is a problem or a malfunction. Failing, actually, the service tech told me. And besides, it was an old phone, what did I expect? Old? This to a woman who is more than content, read “thrilled,” to wear outdated fashions just because she likes them. And would willingly keep computers way past their supposed “shelf life.” Sigh. OK, fine,
