ADAO to Discuss Mesothelioma Cancer Awareness (January 23, 2011) Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) will hold its seventh annual conference on international asbestos awareness on April 1 to 3 in Atlanta, Georgia. The nonprofit organization, which has been struggling to spread the news on foreign asbestos and its effects on individual’s health and the environment, will discuss all about overseas asbestos and asbestos cancer or mesothelioma, including health care providers and patients who are currently struggling to fight the disease. On its official web site, ADAO detailed the agenda, which include a welcoming remark from the officials of ADAO, discussions about impact of asbestos in public health and economy and special recognition to reputable individuals and organizations. Reports said that despite few cases of asbestos cancers like mesothelioma, the federal government has not yet banned industries using this deadly mineral. Although there were regulations imposed to educate the public about its impact on health and manufacturing and importation requirements to prohibit illegal distribution of asbestos, the mineral can still be commonly found in infrastructures built prior to the 1970s. In addition, federal government still used a large amount of asbestos in the form of roofing products, gaskets, brakes and other products. Even though the Environmental Protection Agency has finalized an asbestos phase-out and ban rule in 1989, it still remains legal in the U.S. in some applications. According to experts, major asbestos exposure continues today in renovation, demolition and maintenance and automotive brake repair.
