You’ve learned to create websites, host them, and formulated a marketing strategy, now you need to add keywords to your content. So where to start? Whether it’s good news or bad news there are a plethora of keyword tools out there, I mean tons of them….too many the ‘shake a stick at’! I don’t need to go into any details about how important keywords are for those trying to get found. We all know there are courses designed to teach this subject, both paid and unpaid, from many different sources, and the outcome is always the same. As part of my 10 steps to creating a successful affiliate website I want to talk about keywords, but also, I want you to read all my 10 steps that I have list towards the end of this post. The Rules. We have been taught the rules and we have been following them and good for us. But now it’s time to take a step back and really start to understand what is happening. If you need to refresh your memory on keywords read ‘Using Keyword To Increase Traffic‘ then return. You can sweat bullets over your keyword percentage, density, and prominence just getting right so the search engines will embrace your copy and serve it up to the good people in Internet Nirvana. But wait….just stop and smell the coffee for 1 minute. I want you to know that it’s super important that you do your training and go through all the lessons you can, so you understand the mechanics of a well-written article, however, I also want you to understand that Google and the other big names are doing something really important when it comes to search criteria and it’s real world relevant. While you can spend time creating the perfect article …and you should, you also need to change your focus and realize the truth. The truth is that you are writing quality content which has real value for your readers, therefore, you should be concentrating on creating content that’s read by humans and NOT spiders and bots. It’s like learning to drive. You first learn to control the car, then you learn how to control the car the way the examiner would like it controlled right? That’s how you pass your drivers test. Then, you get on the open road on your own, and this is when you really begin to learn how to drive in the real world. How To Find The Best Keywords. So now we need to know how to find the best keywords to drive qualified traffic to our site. It’s never easy but fear not, there are always opportunities, and I’m going to talk to you about some tools that I use. 1. FREE: Google Keyword Planner 2. PAID: Long Tail Pro Google Keyword Planner. For the beginner or the person who doesn’t want to pay for keywords then Google Keyword Planner will be your de facto tool of choice. It’s a tool offering a broad selection of options and many ways to customize your search. Although I have used this tool extensively in the past I no longer use it and I’ll tell you why. In my view, the Google Keyword Planner has a strength which is simultaneously its greatest weakness and that’s its ability to offer versatility and customization. It’s this sheer complexity of this tool is something that drives me away from it. Interestingly, it’s these complexities that would be used my experienced marketers, but these same marketers are unlikely to be using the free Google Keyword Planner tool. In short, I don’t use this and I am not going into any more depth on this subject because there is an enormous amount of training and information direct from google.com that will give you more information tha I could. Long Tail Pro. Long Tail Pro was my first paid tool that I used on a regular basis and although it seemed a little complicated it wasn’t a total confusion like Google Keyword Planner, but nor was it nice and simply like WA keyword tool. If you want the power of a paid tool that’s constantly updated and yours for a one-off, lifetime payment then this could be an option for you. The best way to know if that’s the case is signing up for a test run and see if you like it. You can read my Long Tail Pro review here and you can also watch this introduction video to get a feel for the tool and how it works. Hopefully, you already know how to carry out your keywords research and if you didn’t know which tool was better for the job, then maybe you have some new ideas to try out. Do you have a favorite keyword research tool? Maybe you would like to set me straight of the best tool in your view, or maybe I just plain got it wrong and you want to tell me so. Don’t forget to read my 10 steps to success, the next article will look at Google Analytics. 1.Build your free site 2.Hosting 3.Niche Market 4.Keywords 5.Google analytics 6.Mailing lists 7.Writing content 8.Affiliate links 9.Traffic generation 10.Testing! I hope this has helped you. What do you think? If you have some questions or comments just let me know.
