Adlai E. Stevenson High School – A School of Excellence in Education

A public and four year high school that is located at the corner of Milwaukee Avenue and the half day road in Lincolnshire in the state of Illinois in United States, Adlai E. Stevenson High School is the only high school of District 125. Some of the main feeding schools are the Kildeer Countryside Community Consolidate School in District 96, Lincolnshire Prairieview School in District 103 and Aptakisic Tripp Community Consolidated School in District 102. With an area of over 1,000,000 square feet or around 93,000 m2 the school has the largest campus in entire United States in area. The school has as many as 267 class rooms. Nearly 5,000 students have been enrolled in the school and the student teacher ratio is 16:7. Ranking Stevenson High School has been recognized with the receipt of the Blue Ribbon School Awards for excellence which is the highest award conferred by the United States Department of Education. Usually the school ranks among the top 200 in the Nesweek’s top high schools in United States ranking. In the year 2010 it was ranked 151. In addition; it also received the National School of Distinction in Arts Education from the John F. Kennedy Center located in Washington D.C in the year 2010. Brief Background Opened in September, 1965 it was originally planned as another school in the western side at Lake Zurich. Originally it had only 467 students, 34 teachers and little infrastructure. Identification color of the school, green and gold, was the reminiscent of the American patriots who wore the same color during the War of Independence. A lot of improvements took place in the 1980s and 1990s. Main entrance was rebuilt in 2004. Field of athletics was expanded in 2008. In its long history the school closed only twice, once for heavy snow in 2006 and another time for blizzards in February, 2011. Games and Sports One of the areas that have given major recognition to the school is the arena of games and sports. Multiple gaming facilities including badminton, baseball, basketball, bass fishing, soccer, softball, Ice hockey, swimming, water polo, gymnastics, golf, and hockey is provided for the students in the school. Stevenson High School came in the headlines on October 30th 2007 due to a bombing threat by a 17 year school student from another school Jeremy Dalin. It caused 500 students to miss a school day. Dalin was found and arrested by the FBI.
