2. Apply ice for 10 minutes several times a day. After that follow by placing a warm compress on the anal area. Do this for about 10 to 20 minutes.
3. Apply moist heat by using warm or damp towels several times a day on the anal area.
4. After consulted your health practitioner or pharmacist, take nonprescription pain relievers which could help in relieving pain and swelling.
Home Treatments for Hemorrhoids By Applying Other Comfort Measures
1. Take a day or more of bed rest. This is to take the pressure off the inflamed veins. Sleeping on your stomach with a pillow under your hips will help in decreasing swelling of hemorrhoids. However, if you are pregnant, you may just lie on your side.
2. Moisture build-up could aggravate hemorrhoids. To prevent moisture build-up, wear cotton undergarment. Wear loose clothing to reduce pressure on the anal area.
3. Avoid lifting heavy objects.
4. Do not sit or stand for long period as this may irritates your hemorrhoids condition. However, if you must sit, sit on a pillow.

To prevent hemorrhoids, do the following:
1. Avoid sitting on the toilet for too long.
2. Avoid constipation by increasing the intake of high fiber diet and water.
3. Avoid standing or sitting too long in one position.
