A huge part of SEO revolves around keyword research. Keyword research is inexpensive or free for those willing to do the work themselves and it doesn’t involve a whole lot of effort, other than integrating the keywords into web content. However, keyword research doesn’t just mean going to Google and finding the hottest search phrases that are related to your product and then littering your website with those terms. There is a lot more to SEO than that, if you really want to get the maximum effectiveness from the technique. Here are some other affordable SEO keyword techniques that you may have been overlooking.
Instead of Just Choosing the Highest Ranked Keywords, Analyze
If you simply put in the highest ranked keywords you can locate through software or Google you will not necessarily get traffic that is targeted to your particular website. If you are a local business that only works out of Ontario, Canada do you really want to attract people in Miami, Florida who may be searching for your type of services?
Narrowing down your keywords is a great way to hone in on what is most important to you as far as business goes. It is a great way to make sure that visitors aren’t just glancing at your site and leaving but are actually utilizing your services and earning you the maximum potential profits. This can be achieved by breaking down your keyphrases by geographic location, what you are selling, demographics and other factors.
*** Target Leads via Location ***
If you are a local company then targeting leads via your geographic location is one of the best ways to get reliable leads. This means that instead of using generic keyphrases like “orthopedic surgeon” you use geographically targeted keyphrases like “San Francisco orthopedic surgeon”. Targeting your keyphrases in this way will go a long way toward ensuring that the leads who are landing on your site are actually looking for what you offer in the location that you offer it. This makes them far more likely to buy into your product and therefore makes all the hard SEO work that you have poured into your website much more effective.
*** Target Leads via Class Level ***
If you do not work with entry level clients or you only work with clients in a higher income bracket then you may want to target your keyphrases to these customers. For example instead of using something like “dental services” you may want to use phrases that are more pointed to what you do and who you serve such as “high end cosmetic dental services”. This keyword phrase will get fewer searches but the searches will be more effective and the people who find your site through that search will be far more likely to invest money in your particular service.
*** Know Your Company and Know Your Goals ***
Before embarking on any SEO campaign you need to make a clear decision of what you hope to achieve with the campaign and what is best for your company. You should have a clear outline of who you want to attract, what you want them to do once they arrive at your website, and what effects you want your SEO campaign to have on your overall sales. If you have a product that normally brings in 20% of your revenue and another that normally brings in 60% of your revenue you need to decide if you want to further market what you know works or make an attempt at boosting sales of the underperforming product. This will greatly affect what sort of keyphrases you use and other details of your campaign, so it’s an important step that shouldn’t be overlooked.
With some research and effort any SEO campaign can be a success. Of course with little research and little effort any SEO campaign can be a failure. It is not a clear cut path to high profits unless you take some time out to make decisions and learn a little bit about optimization. Even if you let an outside company work on optimization for you, learning about the process can help to guarantee that your affordable SEO campaign is a successful one.
