So let’s be clear… the internet is 20 years old and it’s basically a giant mess. There’s information everywhere and on every type of platform that we as the human race have been able to imagine thus far, and we are an exceedingly intelligent species that will find new ways to benefit from just about anything.
Here’s something to think about… If the internet is only 20 years old (and in the grand scheme of things 20 years represents a tiny sliver of time and basically denotes that the internet is still in it’s infancy), then we as people have only had 20 years by which to even contemplate structures and layers to the internet. And because the internet has exploded and allows people from anywhere on the globe access AND the ability to add new websites, structures, coding languages (not even mentioning the evolution in hardware), we’re basically still figuring out how to package the incredible amount of information that the internet holds into a structure that can be easily utilized by populations the world over.
Google came along and greatly aided in the ability to find information… they are a portal by which you can search out what you want to find by an ever evolving set of algorithms that parses and returns information. But that does not mean that the information and websites to which Google sends you have any structure, or order, or if information that you’re getting is accurate and true, or even and most importantly if that information is specific to you as an individual. Google is the start of organization on the internet, but is not the end-all of actually organizing a structure by which information can be accessed by populations in a way that benefits then exactly and individually. Google is kinda like an aggregation system for the myriad of websites and information that exist on the internet.
Now, what am I hammering away at?
Quick review so far… The internet has a lot of information. That information is not really organized into a coherent system. Aggregation of information is functioning. Curation of information (ie., the ability to aggregate information and afterwards tease out of that surplus of information the exact type of information you personally are looking for based on any number or combination of factors) is the future.
How can you take advantage of this?
Take a look at the ‘daily deal’ industry. Deals are everywhere, each day, in any city around the world, in any niche you can imagine. Everyone can benefit from these deals but how do we aggregate and then apply a curation filter to the enormous number of deals that are going on daily around us?
That is the question that we posed to ourselves and more importantly created the solution to by creating a hosted daily deal aggregator script that allows you to run your own daily deal aggregator website.
DOD Aggregator is revolutionary. Aggregation and curation is the way of the future.
