Alcohol treatment centers use a variety of time-tested therapeutic options for its clients. One of those options is the introduction to the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous—12 steps that can provide a blueprint for a meaningful life. Back in 1935, two men got together with the sole purpose of helping each other to stay sober on a daily basis, and together, Bill W. and Dr. Bob founded Alcoholics Anonymous. Four years later, they released the book Alcoholics Anonymous, and introduced for the first time the 12 Steps. Since that time, many Alcohol Treatment Centers across the world have incorporated the 12 Steps into their suite of alcoholism treatment options, and while there have been a number of newer treatments that have been introduced, the 12 Steps are still relevant today. Alcohol rehab starts with a simple decision, and the basis for the first step—admitting powerlessness over alcohol and that life has become unmanageable as a result. Once an alcoholic has made this admission, they can open their minds to a recovery process that can forever change their lives. Many drinking rehab facilities introduce the 12 Steps to their clients, either through in-house counseling sessions, group meetings or through attendance at outside AA meetings. However the client is introduced to the 12 Steps, it starts a process that, when followed correctly, can act as a roadmap for any recovering alcoholic throughout the course of their lives. Alcohol treatment centers oftentimes provide clients with a full tutorial of the 12 Steps, strongly encouraging them to actively work the steps while in recovery. At a drinking rehab, a client can see how their actions and behaviors while actively drinking affected the lives of those around them, and through the 12 Steps, they can start the process of finding their faults, acknowledging the people they hurt through their actions, and start making amends to those who were hurt by their actions. The 12 Steps are an effective form of alcohol rehab because of its simplicity—broken down in three sections, steps 1-3 are a set of decisions, steps 4-9 call for action, and steps 10-12 are maintenance steps that recovering alcoholics can use to monitor their daily activities. A drinking rehab can go a long way toward helping their clients when the 12 Steps are used as a form of treatment. Alcoholism treatment begins with a simple decision—the admission that you are powerless over alcohol. Alcohol Treatment Centers will give you the blueprint for the 12 Steps, but it’s up to you to follow them through and work them into your life if you are ready to live free of pain and misery. 12 Palms Recovery Center is an alcohol treatment center that firmly believes in the 12 Steps, and uses the 12 Steps as the foundation for their treatment plans.
