Alibag causally means Garden of Ali and it is a coastal town is located in the Raigad district of the Konkan region. Alibag is a weekend vacation place for the Mumbai citizens. It also has a popular center for business meetings. Most of the people in the city own cottages and farms which are few hundred meters from the seashore. As Alibag is encircled by sea on all 3 sides, it is often called as the “Goa of Maharashtra”. Located in the lap of nature, Alibag is a marine town of India. It is considered that the pool was created after Lord Brahma collected the water in which Lord Krishna bathed. A 300 years old sea fort, Kolaba Fort, was built by the Maratha warrior, Shivaji. The fort is located in neighborhood of the Alibaug Beach and is an important historical landmark. Revdanda Fort, Khanderi Fort and Undheri Fort are also most famous among tourists. Besides beaches and forts, the destination is also visited by travelers for its temples including Kanakeshwar Devasthan Temple, which is located on the hill, the temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. A 54 feet high statue of Lord Shiva can be viewed after climbing 5,000 stairs. Moreover, there is a Pushkarna Kund near this temple, which is crowded by tourists. How to reachrnBy Air: Pune and Mumbai are the nearest airport from Alibag. Mumbai is around 108 km and Pune is nearly 138 km by road. You can also get tour package from travel companies.
