All about Entyvio: Usage, Dosage and Side Effects

For years medical experts have been busy discovering the diseases and their medications. Entyvio is one of such prescribed medication which is used to treat certain bowel disorder like Ulcerative Colitis (UC) or Crohn’s disease (CD). This type of medical conditions are often caused when the defense or immune system of the body attacks healthy tissues in the gut causing abdominal pain, blood in stool or diarrhea like symptoms. UC occurs when the lining of large intestine, rectum or both becomes inflamed. These inflammations produce tiny sores which usually begin in the rectum and spread upwards. What is entyvio?Entyvio or vedolizumab belongs to a class of drugs which is known as monoclonal antibodies. It is a biological drug and works by blocking the action of certain natural substances in human body. It helps to decrease the swelling or inflammation caused in the gut and thus reduces the symptoms and slowly results in an improved condition of individual suffering from bowel disorders. Some of the common side effects one might experience from intake of entyvio include nausea, headache, flu or common cold, runny nose, sore throat, back pain, rash or itchy skin. One must tell doctor about symptoms if they have serious side effects including mouth, throat pain, allergic reactions, liver damage, cancer and other infections. Hair loss, weight gain, depression, and fatigue are some of the additional issues which can be the side-effect of consuming entyvio. • Entyvio to treat UC Entyvio is given to an individual with severe ulcerative colitis, especially when no other common UC medicines have worked well or have reduced the symptoms. Entyvio is said to help begin reducing symptoms, induce and maintain remission and reduce the use of corticosteroids that help to improve the way lining of large intestine looks to healthcare provider. • Entyvio to treat CD People who suffer from Crohn’s disease and have not experienced certain benefits from consumption of provided medication are prescribed with entyvio. In such severe cases, it helps to begin reducing some symptoms, achieve remission and reduce or stop the use of corticosteroids. Taking entyvio in such cases can be a great relief to current medical condition. However, one must look for the side effects; in case of severe issues contacting the medical expert is the best solution to reduce the further deteriorated health condition. Precautions While consulting the doctor one must make sure they discuss all the medical history, especially if have suffered from any infections such as fever, chills, cough and other related infection or cancer. Moreover, the patient must also discuss their allergies. As the entyvio contains some inactive ingredients which might cause certain allergic reactions or other related problems. Talking with the doctor or pharmacist in detail about medical history can be beneficial in majority of cases. Dosage In most of the cases, dosage prescribed by the medical experts may vary as per the medical condition of individual. However, in majority of cases, the treatment is started with a schedule in which doses are taken alternately. For instance, if the first dose is taken on week 0, second dose will be taken on week 2 and third on week 6. Afterward, Entyvio is given to patient every eight weeks.
