Chronic dry eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca) occurs when changes to the health of the tear-producing glands affect the quantity and quality of tears produced. The tear film can no longer provide enough nourishment or protection to the surface of the eye. It can be a progressive disease. If left untreated, chronic dry eye can lead to more serious problems.
For the treatment of dry eyes there are various medicines available in the market. Food and Drug Administration has recommended various medicines for the treatment of dry eyes. Restasis is one of the medicine that is approved by FDA. Restasis is that class of medicine that is belong to immunosuppressants group of medicine. It is prescription medicine used for the treatment of chronic dry eye.
Important information before taking Restasis
1) You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to this medicine or to its ingredient.
2) People on this medication should avoid having grape fruit juice.
3) Use of this medication may cause heart or a kidney failure if used for a longer period.
4) It can cause an increase in the blood pressure and affect the functioning of the kidney and also cause an increase in the cholesterol level.
5) Patient taking this medicine should get blood pressure check done regularly.
Use of this medicine by pregnant women and lactating mothers
As it is a prescription medicine, so it should be used as prescribed by the doctor. Use of this medicine by pregnant women and lactating mothers is not recommended by the doctor as use of this medicine by pregnant women and lactating mothers may harm the health of unbo

Recommended Dosage of Restasis medicine
The dosage recommended for Restasis medicine is, in case of transplant, the initial dosage of oral forms is 12-15 mg per kg each day. In case of Arthritis, the dosage is 2.5-4 mg per kg in a day. In case of psoriasis, the dosage is the same as Arthritis. In an injection form, the dosage should be 2-6 mg per kg in a day. Do not increase or decrease the dose of the medicine on your own as it may resulted into serious side effect.
Drug Interaction
Restasis medicines should not be used with combination of any other medicine without doctor recommendation as it may lead to drug interaction. You should inform your doctor if you are taking any prescription, non prescription and herbal medicine before taking Restasis medicine. Restasis medicine should not be used in combination of medicines like amiloride, spironolactone, triamterene, carbamazepine, nafcillin, octreotide, orlistat, phenobarbital, phenytoin, pifampin, st. John's Wort, sulfinpyrazone, terbinafine and ticlopidine
