- First, your dentist will perform a thorough examination. They will perform a range of imaging techniques in order to create a picture of your mouth structure. This allows them to plan the best course of treatment.
- Then, they’ll use software and their experience to plan the implant treatment. Everyone is different and every treatment is too. The shape of your mouth and the structure of your jawbone are taken into account so that the best possible outcome is achieved.
- The surgery is performed. This takes from 90 minutes to two hours per arch and is completed under general anaesthetic or IV sedation. Any remaining teeth and damaged tissue from the gums are removed. Then, they insert the screws into the jawbone.
- Immediately post-op, you’ll rest and recover. Then, you will have a temporary bridge fitted to the implants. This takes about two hours, after which you can go home. Recovery from this procedure takes five to seven days in which time you’ll need to rest and avoid disturbing the surgery site.
- Four to six months after surgery, the temporary bridge is removed and the final bridge is fitted.
