Prilosec Tablets is used to prevent the production of acid in the stomach. It is used for some conditions that can cause excessive stomach acid production such as Zollinger Ellison syndrome and certain cancers. M/A: It is the prototype member of substituted benzimidazoles, which inhibits the final common step in gastric acid secretion and have overtake
H2 blockers for acid-peptic disorders. It is dose dependent suppression of gastric acid secretion, without anticholinergic or H2 blocking action. It is inactive at neutral PH, but at PH<5 rearranges to two charged cat ions forms (sulphenic acid and a sulphenamide configuration) that react covalently with SH groups of the h+K+ATPase enzyme and inactive it irreversibly. When two molecules of prilosec react with one molecules of the enzyme. After diffusing into the parietal cell from blood it gets concentrated in the acidic PH of the canaliculi because the charged forms generated there at the acidic PH are unable to diffuse back. Acid secretion resumes only when new H+K+ATPase molecules are synthesized. It also inhibits gastric mucosal carbonic anhydrate.
