Allergy is the hypersensitivity disorder of the immune system. Allergy occurs when the person’s immune system reacts to normally harmless substances in the environment. Pollution, dust particles and harmful elements present in the environment causes allergy. People who are exposed to allergy are affected by many elements. Elements that causes allergy are;
• Pollen
• Dust mites
• Mold spores
• Pet dander
• Food
• Insect stings
• Medicines
Researchers think allergy is caused by both genes and environment. Allergies can cause runny nose, itchy skin, rashes, swelling or asthma. Allergies makes one feel bad but they do not harm your life. However, severe reaction anaphylaxis is dangerous. There are numerous itchy skin allergies and rashes. Though, all of them are not related skin allergy.
Atopic dermatitis is most common among kids. Atopic dermatitis is found in young adults and continues in adult life. The rash of atopic dermatitis is often known as eczema; it occurs where the person scratches. In kids, rash occur within the reach of child, where s/he can scratch like chest, cheeks and scalp. Elder people or adults develop scratches on the skin fold of elbows and behind the knees, it may also occur on the face, hand, neck and feet. The rashes are usually red or flakes or oozes and has small blister and bumps. Scratching causes excoriation and broken skin.
Urticaria is another type of allergy, it is very well known as hives. These are often itchy rash that can occur at any age. This rash appears like raised red bumps of various types, shapes and size and typically lasts for a minute or few hours. Though they are very itch, a person should not scratch to the point of breaking the skin and cause bleeding. The swelling that sometimes developed along with Urticaria is called angioedema; it involves the lips, the eyes, the hands and feet. Angioedema is certainly not itchy, it rather cause burning sensation, tingling or sting. Severe swelling that blocks the breathing can be dangerous to life.
Contact dermatitis is the allergy that is caused when the person is in contact with substances that causes a rash like reaction. People are allergic to variety of chemical including cosmetic products, hair dye, metals topical medication and dental materials. Contact dermatitis somewhat looks like atopic dermatitis and is located at the area exposed to the offending chemical. Contact dermatitis to metal such as in jewelry, buttons, zippers on clothing commonly occur on the neck, wrist and hands, earlobes and at the waistline.
It is common to have itching without any ashes or allergy. The biological term for itching is pruritus; this can be the sign of medical problem or internal disease. If the itching is limited to certain area of the body that reflects that disease is restricted to the limited to skin only.
Most rashes are not dangerous but some of them cause danger to life if they are part of an infectious disease such as chickenpox. It is therefore; very much essential to treat the symptoms of itchy and dry skin by applying anti- itch cream containing camphor, menthol or Benadryl, use suitable moisturizing lotion. If these measures did not work and the rashes becomes more widespread, consult the skin specialist or dermatologist for the treatment.
