Altea may be just a small town in Alicante that is about 50 kilometers away at Alicante’s northwest but it has quite some allurements. It is also only 10 kilometers off Benidorm which makes it a popular day trip visit. Altea is a typical small Costa Blanca town that comprises a small population of about 20,000 inhabitants. It lies between the sea and the mountain to offer a beautiful landscape that is not found in the skyscrapers of Benidorm. The month of January sees the high honors attributed to the Cristo de la Salud while spring brings on the Holy Week festival. There are plenty of pilgrimage festivals dedicated to many of the region’s saints such as San Juan Bautista, Santa Ana, the Virgin of Carmen, Saint James and San Roc.
