Marijuana has been approved in several states for medicinal purposes. This is wonderful news for the many headache sufferers this medicinal plant can help. Michigan is one of the states to take this step forward, and we here at Ann Arbor Health Collective are pleased that we can offer you this alternative treatment. We have several different varieties of medicinal cannabis available, all of high quality and having undergone strict quality control measures. What is medicinal marijuana or cannabis? Cannabis is just the scientific name for marijuana. The history of marijuana goes back hundreds of years, but the scientific research that today’s medicinal marijuana is based upon began in 1960 with the discovery of compounds called cannabinoids. The sole psychoactive cannabinoid, THC, led to a group of neurotransmitter receptors being found in the 1980s. The THC in marijuana activates this newly-found group of neuro-receptors and is credited with many beneficial effects of marijuana in the treatment of medical conditions. Different varieties of marijuana work most effectively on different types of medical problems. The patients at Ann Arbor Health Collective are guided to the variety which will be most helpful to them. Due to its popularity as a recreational drug, the public has been slow to accept the many uses of medicinal marijuana, but this is changing. The law making Michigan medicinal cannabis legal was passed in 2008 and the control of migraine headaches is just one of the many uses of medical marijuana . But what would keep a migraine sufferer in the Great Lake state from trying medical marijuana? Some migraine sufferers are embarrassed to seek the help available due to the stigma attached to marijuana use. We at Ann Arbor Health Collective are sensitive to this and will always treat you with the professionalism and empathy you deserve.
