Ama Dablam expedition is one of the popular expedition choices for those who love to climb mountains. Nepal is the perfect destination for climbing the peaks as it offers a wide variety and multiple choices for mountaineering lovers. Mount Ama Dablam is a mountain in the Himalayan range of eastern Nepal, located almost due south of Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse in the Khumbu region. It is a steep pyramid of ice with vertical walls and sharp, exposed ridges. The main peak is 6,812 meters (22,349 ft), the lower western peak is 6,170 meters (20,243 ft). As you would expect, that allows for some stunning views during the climb as well as on the summit. The mountain stands above the famous Tangboche Monastery which is traditionally visited by climbers in the region. The literal meaning of Ama Dablam is "Mother's Necklace" and the name has been derived by the form the mountain takes. The long ridges extend on each side like the arms of a mother (ama) protecting her child, and the hanging glacier referred to as the Dablam, the traditional double-pendant containing pictures of the gods, worn by Sherpa women. Even though the name has a soft ring to it, Ama Dablam packs a lot of rough for trekkers and mountain climbers alike. Mount Ama Dablam is a beautiful mountain, located almost due south of Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse in the Khumbu region. Ama Dablam is also known as the "Matterhorn of the Himalayas" due to its intense features and similarity in terrain with that of the Matterhorn Mountain in Switzerland. Mount Ama Dablam forms a lasting impression on many trekkers in Nepal, as it is perhaps the most stunning mountain along the popular trekking route to Everest Base Camp. rnDespite the intensity of the path leading to Ama Dablam, it still stands out as one of the most famous and beautiful peaks in the world. Ama Dablam stands proudly, rising above the Dudh Koshi river valley and stands on the way to the Everest Base camp, Nepal. However, it should be clear to everyone that, even with all the scenic beauty and gorgeous landscapes surrounding Ama Dablam, this expedition is a massive combination of a rough terrain trek as well as a strenuous climb. Therefore Ama Dablam expedition requires skilled rock climbing and ice climbing skills, with sufficient acclimatization in high altitudes and know-how of technical equipment. Ama Dablam is the third most popular Himalayan peak for permitted expeditions. The most popular route by far is the Southwest Ridge. Climbers normally set up three camps along the ridge while making their ascent to the Ama Dablam peak. Any ice that calves off the glacier typically goes left, away from the camp. Our ascent will be made via the SW ridge route, a technical route with three camps above base camp. The climb is usually completed in less than four weeks. The climbing on the route involves pure rock climbing on exquisite granite followed by mixed snow and rock climbing. The last section to the summit involves ice climbing followed by a long steep snow slope up to the summit. So, in order to reach the first campsite from the base camp, climbers need to pass through the tough and difficult saddle ridges. Then they should turn north, climbing up through a rough rocky path leading up to Camp 1 of Ama Dablam. From Camp 1, a climber has to cross the rocky bowl and climb the Southwest ridge through the lines connecting the other camps leading to Camp 2 of Ama Dablam. The climbing route from Camp 2 mainly includes a steep narrow path mixed with rocks, ice, and snow. This rugged route leads to a sloppy climb to a snow-covered ground and then passes through steep ice and snow made a tunnel, then along the snowy saddle ridge which finally leads to Camp 3. From Camp 3 to the summit of Ama Dablam, is a steep uphill climb on a path of ice and snow. From the summit of Ama Dablam, you can witness the beauty of the mountains. With charming scenarios of the Mount Everest (8848m), the Island peak, Lhotse (8516m), Mount Makalu(8463m), the Khumbu Himalayas and the rest of the snowcapped surroundings, Ama Dablam summit allows climbers to breathe in a splendid view after a hectic climb. rnThe Ama Dablam expedition also includes walking through the Namche village on the way leading to the summit. This walk will take you through the Sherpa village where you will receive warm hospitality from the Sherpas, often known as mighty climbers. Local hot beverages are served at tea houses along the way with traditional Nepali cuisine, which is sure to fill your taste buds with some unique Nepali flavors. Although the Sherpa community there leads a simple life and not as prosperous, they provide excellent service with a homely and welcoming attitude. Ancient monasteries are seen decorated with prayer wheels and prayer flags that exhibit the religious inclination of Sherpa people towards Buddhism.
