If you are wondering about the golf scene in Thailand, what you must know is that the place has 280 golf courses for you to choose from. These vary in scenery from Oceanside views to those of mountains. If you are from the Gulf, or the UK or even Russia, you will know how limited your golfing season is. That is where Thailand can come to the rescue. The weather is conducive for some great golf almost all through the year. The climate is largely tropical and humid is most parts of the country through a large part of the year.
Northern and southern Thailand have a difference of one season. In the north, the months betwee
November and May are when the weather is predominantly dry. Here too, the dry months are split into two sections – November through February and then March through May. This second set of dates is when the temperatures are a bit higher as the region will be prepping up for the monsoons. It’s the same winds that brings in the cooling winds between the months of November and February.
The great part about the courses at Thailand is that they are geared to handle the monsoon season. So even if there is a heavy downpour, the drainage system in place is excellent allowing the courses to dry up sooner. The best way to be prepared is to buy a water-proof golf bag. Rest assured that your ever-smiling caddies will be equipped with massive umbrellas come rain or sunshine.
If you are in the southern part of the country, then you will have only the monsoons and summer to deal with. There are distinctly clear months for both. Rains on the west coast are from April through November and on the east betwee
September and December. The best time to visit Thailand for a round of golfing is betwee
November and February.
The most important part about golf in Thailand is knowledge of the weather. This will help you visit the country at the right time for the sport. Despite all of this, it’s still a smart idea to book your tee time in summer for around 1:30 PM. By all standards the course is much quieter at this time. Should you happen to get caught in an unexpected storm, there are a number of rest stops along the path that will provide you with shelter. Also you should know that tee time rates are marginally a bit lower post April and May. This is the time to go if you want courses that are relatively uncrowded. Some of the cooler courses are found in the north around the Chiang Mai Highlands region. They are pleasant even in summer.
