We can all agree that lawn and garden maintenance is not as easy as it looks. A lot of hard work, effort and planning goes into ensuring that your miniature ecosystem not only survives, but flourishes. Even with all of the planning and effort in the world, you also need the help of Mother Nature to give your garden the best possible chance at success. Unfortunately, 2 months of hard work and care can be ruined by a couple days of hot weather and lack of water.
This is where an automated irrigation system can make life much easier for both you and your garden. Manually dragging a hose around your yard is much more time consuming and laborious. Even if you use an automated sprinkler head, you still need to drag your hose and move the sprinkler to the next designated area. This pattern can create many problems. Firstly, you are likely to only attempt this chore on the weekend. Then you will possibly overcompensate by leaving the hose on for an extended period of time to really ‘soak’ the soil. Lastly you will need to put everything away at the end of the day.
While this not only wastes time, you are wasting water and possibly harming your lawn in the process. Optimal watering patterns for most plants or grasses can be described as ‘often in little amounts’. This means that optimally, your plants and grasses would have the best rate of success when watered a few times a day in small increments. By dumping too much water on them once a week, you are starving and then overfeeding your plants. Furthermore, few people realize that there are optimal watering times as well. However, all of these problems can be solved with the installation of an automated sprinkler system.
While you may not have the ability to roll out your hose twice a day, an automated system will activate with little cost. Furthermore, since you are able to program the length of time the system will stay on for; you can have your system turn on twice a day for short periods. You never want to water your plants when they are exposed to direct sunlight as most of the water will evaporate before plant absorption can occur (the water can also act as a magnifier and actually burn your plants). Therefore programming the system to activate at dusk and dawn will allow for maximum water uptake by your vegetation.
By providing your plants with constant water, they will grow lusher as the plants are never starved for nutrients. This also provides the plants with water when they need it the most, before and after photosynthesis, which starts and stops with sun exposure. A permanent system also ensures that no area is neglected and water distribution is constant. Lastly, most systems have rain detectors, which means that if a sufficient amount of rain has fallen, the system will not activate therefore ensuring you never drown your plants. In conclusion, an automated irrigation system will save you time and money, while ensuring your plants flourish.
