An insight into the Steel Industry
Steel industry is flourishing at the moment. Producers are specializing in one type of steel and making only the ones that are popular in their country or the one that is popular throughout the world. Everyday new products are made that use either pure steel or some alloy of steel. Due to the high demand it can be seen that more and more people are investing in steel these days and the metal is gaining popularity, both in production and usage, throughout the world. Due to the properties of steel, many industries use it in their products as it provides the products with strength, endurance and also the ability to withstand high temperatures. Steel being an alloy of iron is a lot more flexible thus, it is very easy to mould it into shapes without the fear that it would break.
The steel industry provides many types of steel being sold throughout the world. Different products require different types of steel for example cutlery requires stainless steel and railroad tracks require long steel. A very popular type of steel that is available on the market is cold rolled steel. As the name suggests, steel is processed while cold. It is manufactured from hot rolled coil that has been chemically cleaned before being rolled. The coil is initially cold, however while being reduced, the coil will get hotter as the steel work hardens. The cold rolling reduces the thickness of the steel. This thin steel is very useful and hence popular. This is because these thin and small rods, beams, sheets etc. go through a careful process of production due to which they are stronger than the steel that is not rolled. During the past 5 years, the cold rolled steel prices have been fluctuating with the highest prices being charged between 2007 and 2008. Cold rolled steel prices are always higher than normal steel prices because they require special machinery and a lot of expensive equipment is used. In addition, the temperatures that have to be maintained and the environment that is needed to build these cold rolled steel products increase the cost of production substantially.
rnDue to the many types of steel being produced, steel prices differ a lot for each kind. The methods of production being used as well as the different machinery that is used cause the steel prices to be different. In addition, the popularity of the type of steel also has a direct effect on the steel prices. They more popular a product is the higher the prices will be charged in order to make the maximum profit possible.
