Pianos are unique instruments that have been around for hundreds of years. Though they have strings, they utilize mechanical hammers and have a percussive element. They can take the lead or run the rhythm and can be found in nearly every genre of music. Furthermore they are large, hard to move and very difficult to properly tune and have thousands of parts. Needless to say they are complex machines with thousands of movings parts, and naturally they are created to varying degrees of quality. As in life, you pay for what you get and pianos can very greatly in terms of looks, sound quality and cost.

Pianos are similar to cars in the sense that while there are many options that get you from point A to point B, there is no limit to the amount of detail and precision that can be put into the design and production of one. While function is key, both pianos and cars can be considered pieces of art. For pianos, sound quality and feel are the two most important elements and these are both by-products of the way the entire instrument was produced. There is no ‘quick fix’ to improve either element, and every small part on the instrument contributes to the overall results of these dimensions.

Because of these factors, a piano is not something you casually purchase or spontaneously buy. Furthermore, like a car, there are certain brands that are known for making high quality products and have a legacy of successful production in their storied history, and the Steinway & Sons piano company is a prime example. For over 150 years they have been producing some of the world’s finest pianos, and is the choice of most professional piano players. Simply put, these elegant and magnificent instruments are not only beautiful, their sound quality and feel is second to none.

Many recreational and non-professional piano players dream of having such a prestigious instrument in their home. A few years ago Steinway added the Essex line to their inventory, allowing more people to bring one home with them. Furthermore, the Steinway Piano Gallery in Toronto also offers a plethora of used and vintage pianos as well. While many companies simply sell used pianos ‘as is’ the Steinway Gallery refurbishes their used pianos with authentic and genuine Steinway parts. A Steinway isn’t a Steinway unless all it’s parts are genuine. Simply put, their craftsmanship and dedication to quality is second to none and their instruments are created with decades of experience and craftsmanship.

This is why many families choose Steinways and even pass pianos on through generations of families. These pianos are built with old world craftsmanship and can last decades with routine maintenance. There are few things in this world that function and perform the same way it did 30 years ago. These pianos are one of the few examples of old world quality and hand crafted art being used in the production process, designed to impress you and your audience for years to come.
