Can you improve your emotional intelligence through better anger management? Our capacity to empathise or identify with the feelings of others makes up our emotional intelligence (EI). It is the key to both more fulfilling interpersonal relationships and better anger management.

Emotional intelligence is advantageous because those who posses it usually work better with other people, a trait that is valuable because humans are social animals. People with high EI make better leaders because they can often gain the trust of others more easily. Someone with high emotional intelligence is likely to also be someone with good anger control skills because both posses the same skills.

The good news is both EI and anger control are skills that can be learned. If you, like the majority of us, never learned these skills at home or at school, you might find taking an anger management class to be immensely helpful. The key is to integrate lessons you learn in class into your daily life and practice them repeatedly until they become second nature.

Everyone feels angry sometimes and that's okay; it's how you respond to that feeling that counts. Anger control classes teach you more effective ways to respond to anger. Being able to read and understand the emotions of other people is key.

Clear, effective communication is also vital. Learning how to express your needs and feelings in a non-threatening and non-judgmental manner is difficult but crucial. This is an area in which a little hard work up front can save you a lot of time and effort in the long run.

It's not a quick or easy thing to change life-long habits but it can be done with lots of patience and practice. Good anger management skills increase your emotional intelligence and quality of life both at work and at home.
