Since the turn of the century Audi has experienced an astonishing rise to prominence in the premium car sector. In 2000 over 43,000 Audi cars were purchased in the UK, since then and up until 2008 the German car manufacturer has broken its annual sales record year on year. In 2007 Audi broke the 100,000 unit milestone. 2008 was a very bad year for car manufacturers, the global financial crisis really tested the automotive sector and many say along with the housing market the automotive market was worst hit by the global recession. Despite this, by the end of 2008 Audi had gained market share to a record breaking 4.7%. Audi continues to grow, it has introduced new models to expand its reach and appeal, models like the A1 and A3 Cabriolet have made the brand attractive to a new demographic. 2011 has seen Audi win a cabinet full of awards, especially for the Audi A1 and A5 but other models have been scooping up awards too. The Audi A4 Allroad Quattro has been voted Executive Car of the Year by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers. The Audi A4 in Southampton has also done well in the executive saloon sector. It was not an easy award to achieve, the A4 Avant faced fierce competition in the category, and its sibling the Audi A5 Sportback provided stiff competition along with other models from different manufacturers. Director of Audi UK Jeremy Hicks was delighted with the award for the A4 Allroad: "If proof were needed that the A4 allroad is fit for purpose, not just as super refined executive transport but also as a tough opponent to more testing terrain and conditions, then an award made by Scottish motoring writers surely provides it. This is a great endorsement."
