Most businesses are managed in part by human resource managers. These professionals calculate employees’ paychecks, ensure that workers have access to benefits, and train people who have just been hired for positions. However, human resource managers themselves must prove their worth before they are hired for their positions. When they complete an application for HR, applicants are required to disclose information about themselves and convince corporate leaders that they can manage this department within a business. Most people who apply for this position possess college degrees. Some individuals have degrees in business administration, while others possess diplomas in accounting or human resource management. Most larger companies will not hire someone who does not have a college degree. Smaller companies may offer on-the-job training to the right candidate, however. In an application for HR, candidates are required to provide basic information about themselves, including their full names, Social Security numbers, their addresses, and contact phone numbers. In addition to basic details, these individuals also are asked to provide information about their college and work experiences. Some applications allow people to list relevant coursework, such as economics, management strategies, and communications. They can also describe what kind of diploma they secured from their post-graduate institution. In addition to educational information, applicants also are required to disclose their prior work experiences. Ideal candidates for a human resources position may have worked as supervisors or team leaders at previous jobs. Likewise, they may be considered ideal if they have garnered recognition or awards for their leadership and management abilities from prior employers. When they submit an application for HR, candidates might also be expected to undergo background checks and drug tests. Because of their leadership within the company if they are hired, these individuals are expected to possess exemplary ethics and be above indulging in unfavorable habits such as drug use or theft. While their application for HR is pending, applicants sometimes must have blood drawn, submit to a urine test, and allow a potential employer to run a background check on them to make sure that they are trustworthy and not under the influence of illegal drugs. Some companies also perform credit checks on applicants. Because they will be handling a company’s finances, applicants may be expected to have good credit. They must demonstrate that they are responsible with money and can pay bills on time. Likewise, some corporate leaders believe that people with poor credit might be tempted to steal money from the company and use it for their own benefit. While some companies do not consider a person’s credit, larger corporations consider a credit check to be a routine part of applying for a position in human resource management.
