“The external actions may be good or bad. That does not bind karma. What causes bondage of karma is your inner intent. Therefore, be aware of the inner intent and do not spoil it” – Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, the founder of Akram Vignan. Every single aspect of our present life, including our thoughts, speech and visible actions, are all results of our karma from past life. These karma are in discharge form. It means when we have negative or positive thoughts, these too are a result of our past life karma only. For example, when someone offers us a cup of tea and we have disdain for the tea, it implies that in our previous life we’ve charged this karma due to our opinion of strong dislike for the tea. Therefore, in this life, in the form of discharge karma, we are having adverse feelings towards tea. The same theory applies to visible actions too. For instance, if someone donates funds to charity, this is a visible action today, but its intention was sown in the past life. And that is what discharges when Nature deems it is the right time for this karma to unfold. Therefore, every external action is also a result of our past life karma - good or bad. The Role Of Our Inner Intent rnWhilst past karmas are unfolding in our current life, we are simultaneously binding new karmas through our inner intent for future life. Hence, we shall always try to never spoil our inner intent. To make this happen: •Every morning 5 times, we’ll recite the following sentence with sincerity: ‘let no living being be hurt even to the slightest extent through my mind, speech and body’. We will gradually start seeing a positive outcome as a result of our positive intent. •If negative thoughts enter our mind, we shall oppose them and try altering them into positive ones. The negative thought is a discharge of bad result of the past, but when you alter the thought into a positive one, this means you are now charging new good karma, that will bring you peace and harmony in future. •If bad thoughts persist, ask for forgiveness (do pratikraman). The benefit of doing this is, our mind will feel lighter towards that situation or person, and internally we will feel less vengeful or aggressive. rnThe 3-fold process of pratikraman (stepping back) from aggression is as follows: -Alochana - confessing the mistake to the Lord within, -Pratikraman - asking for forgiveness for that mistake, -Pratyakhyan - making the firm resolve to never repeat the mistake again. Is there a process whereby we can stop the charging of new karmas? rnAbsolutely! By attaining the knowledge of the Self. When we discover our real identity i.e. ‘who am I’, new karma seize to bind. What is Self-realisation? rnDuring the 2-hours Self-realisation ceremony, by the grace of the Enlightened One: -Our demerit karmas are destroyed, -The Soul and the body are separated, andrn-We acquire the understanding of who is the doer.rnTo conclude:rnOur current life is a reflection of our own inner intents that we made in past life. It is the discharge of our past karma. And to stop charging of any new karmas, we have to acquire the knowledge of ‘who am I’. Once we have acquired this understanding, we begin to learn to remain in the awareness of our real Self, and thus are on the path of being released forever from the cycle of birth and death.
