While many areas in the UK already have digital television, the remaining analogue signals are due to be switched off in 2012. This article explores the consequences of this and asks whether you are ready or not. Most people are now aware that the old analogue signal for television broadcasts is finally going to be switched off for the last time in 2012. While most areas have already switched over from analogue to digital, some still remain to make the switch. If you happen to be in one of these areas are you ready to make the change?

If you are still considering your options there has never been a better time to think about what you might want to do. For example, would you be better choosing from cable, satellite or Freeview services? Freeview is tempting but you won’t get the full range of channels and you may still need to get some equipment to ensure you can receive the signals.

One service you may want to consider - especially if you are already a customer of BT - is the BT Vision HD service. BT Vision is their own television service and it has lots of channels on offer. If you are looking for an alternative to satellite or cable television and you want more than Freeview can offer, BT Vision HD might be just the thing for you. You can get the regular BT Vision packages if you wish, but the HD service gives you access to all the high definition services that will transform your viewing. You will need a high definition television set in order to view these programmes, but it is well worth investing in one.

As you can see it is worth weighing up all the possibilities before you decide which digital television service you are going to get. Your budget will factor into this because you have to consider how much you have to spend each month if you don’t want to use Freeview. Luckily every service has cost effective options, so you don’t have to go for the most expensive range of packages. This applies regardless of whether you choose BT Vision packages or any others from other satellite or cable providers.

In truth many people have already made the switch, even if they are living in areas where the analogue signal has yet to be switched off. This is because they signed up for one of the other digital services a long time ago. But don’t worry if you don’t fall into this group. You still have plenty of time to consider your options if you want to make the switch as soon as possible.

In the end, once you have made your decision, you will wonder why you didn’t switch sooner. With better quality pictures and more channels to choose from, digital television is already a big success. You might even find it renews your interest in watching television, no matter what you love to watch the most.
