Are you seeking for gratification or happiness? Understand between what is gratification and happiness
Do you think it is important for you to take action to improve your community or society? Have you ever stop yourself from taking action to try to improve your community or society because you believe that one person cannot make a difference? Do you feel like it would be a waste of your time to take action by yourself?
If you have ever stop yourself from taking action to improve your community or society because you believe that you as one person cannot make a difference, then you are seeking for gratification, not true happiness. You believe that there must be a significant result or outcome at the end in order for you to take action. However, as a human being, your main goal is to seek happiness not gratification. Happiness can only develop from within you. In this case, it depends on how strong your feelings and beliefs are toward your actions, and not the result or outcome.
You might already know that exte
al things such as materialism will not bring you happiness. In this case, results or outcomes are also considered exte
al things. Anything that you see from the outside such as result or outcome, it is considered gratification. Gratification will only bring you temporary happiness. However, things that will bring you true happiness will last forever.
In this case, if you are one person taking action, and you truly believe in your actions are the right thing for your community and society, then that will bring you happiness. You do not have to see or wait until the result to manifest in order to experience happiness. Outside results or outcomes should only be additional motivation or benefits to help you take action and move forward. The true benefit that you should seek and receive is the feelings that you develop from your actions. In addition, when you believe you are doing the right thing, you should feel the benefit the moment you take action.
However, if you do not receive the benefit right away from within you when you take action, it means you are counting on exte
al results and outcomes to bring you happiness, which means you are seeking for gratification.
In addition, if you believe that one person cannot make a difference, then you are wrong. If you are truly contributing to your community and society, the result will manifest, but it might be visible for you to see. Sometimes your actions affect others or parts of the community that you do not see or aware of. When you take positive actions, something or someone is affected by it somewhere in your community or society. Positive actions will lead to positive results. The more actions you take, the more positive results will manifest in some way or form that you might not be aware of.
To help you start taking actions, try applying the following steps:
1. List down on the left side of a piece of paper on how you would want your community and society to be
2. On the right side of the same piece of paper, write down what would it takes to accomplish what you want
3. And then look at your list and start taking action right away, do your part
For example, if you want your community and society to have a cleaner environment, then do your part by not littering. Or if you know that it is better to walk or bike to nearby locations to reduce air pollution comparing to driving, and then do your part to walk or bike. Or if you know that it is important for everyone to vote, and then do your part in voting.
It is all about doing your part. If everyone was to do their part, then imagine how your community and society will change massively. Remember, everything starts will one person.
