If you’re scouting article marketing tips regularly, you have likely heard that search engines have switch their keyword relevancy algorithms to something called “LSI”, or “latent semantic indexing.” What does this mean in terms of how you write your articles? It means that simply stuffing as many keywords as possible into your content in an effort to get them to rank well is no longer going to cut it. While this change will hopefully eliminate some of the worst content rubbish that has found its way to the top of the page ranks, it also means that those who write content are going to need to change up their styles if they have any hope of retaining visibility. Despite the “downside” of having to put a little more thought into what you write, the benefits of using this style of content construction are many. Latent semantic indexing is simply a fancy term describing the number of related terms used in combination with each other on any given webpage. This means that if you type the term “divorce” into a search engine, for example, the search bots are going to look for terms such as “lawyers”, “custody”, “division of assets” and other terms related to the theme of divorce in order to determine the relevancy of the results listed on the query pages. These related terms are deemed “expert verbiage.” While this sounds intimidating, it really isn’t. LSI is all about sounding natural. Each of us, in our daily lives, naturally includes “expert verbiage” in our conversations, when speaking on a topic about which we are knowledgeable. The benefits of constructing your content with LSI in mind should be obvious. Not only is doing so now the only way to get “search engine love”, but it also revs up the authority that your content holds – for both your electronic and organic readers. Content that ranks well has three primary characteristics. It provides information that is useful and relevant to the reader, it is unique and of high quality, and it is “themed” (using expert verbiage centered around a primary phrase) so that the search engines know how to categorize it. A well constructed LSI piece then, is all about the art of sounding natural and human. It is about translating your expertise into an easily accessible format for both the bots and the reader. It is about demonstrating your integrity and sincere desire to provide helpful information rather than just trying to make a sale. It is about building a relationship of trust with your readers rather than attempting to insult their intelligence with rubbish and tricks. Keep these characteristics in mind when constructing all future content, and you’re pieces will be well on their way to retaining the visibility they deserve.
