Our brain is an electrical and chemical organ. It uses electrical energy and magnetism. It works during lifetime and it constantly digests information that comes inside. But the speed of information digestion is not stable. During daytime, our brain switches from one state to another. Then, when we do some intensive, stressful work, our brain works in a very active way. The rhythm of its work is very high. When we sleep, our brain's activity becomes quite low. All in all, there are four main categories of brain's activity. The highest is beta activity which frequency is 30 cycles per second. The lowest one is delta - making 1.5 cycles per second. During 24 hours we experience all kinds of frequencies, from the highest one to the lowest, and vice versa. To be more precise, here are the four major states of the brain's frequency: Beta - from 14 to 30 cycles per second - the wake, the extraversion, the concentration, the logical thinking, active conversation, arguing. Our mind is engaged in physical activity and is excited. Alfa - from 7 up to 13 hertz - relaxation, quiet state, meditation and hypnosis, daydreaming. Theta - from 3.5 to 6 hertz - deep relaxation, meditation, paranormal phenomena, dreams, the moment when we fall asleep, shamanic experiences. Delta - from 1.5 hertz to 3 hertz - deep sleep without dreams. Alfa meditation can be easily accomplished even by the newbies. It is a simple meditation that does not require a lot of preparation and practice. However, this meditation is also the least effective because you still need to fight with the weakening but remaining strong flow of thoughts. Creating of the visual images is more difficult than when you are in deeper meditative states. Not everyone can visualize at this stage. A deeper meditation that requires to enter theta state is the most efficient. If you have questions that you need to consider, you direct all your attention to them, thus provoking the understanding of the problem. Also, in this state of mind, you create visual images easier. You can meditate on an object that you see with your mind's eye or simply visualize very effectively. Theta meditation can have such a great impact that the images that you create in your mind penetrate in your subconsciousness and stay there like real objects. This is why the best time for meditation is before sleep or right after awakening, because during this time our brain is in the state of low activity and is relaxed. And at these moments we can easier plunge in deeper states of mind. However, it is highly probable that after a short period of meditation you fall asleep as your control of the process and awareness may weaken.Article author
