Links of construction, building reputations

Building links is like building a reputation: it is known by the company you keep. If the spiders find links to and from reputable sites, you will receive a boost in Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. The emphasis is not on the amount of quality links. Encourage reciprocal links with businesses and reputable sites that share its subject, but do not offer the same services.

Keywords for life

Keywords should be part of your DNA. Build and maintain a list of keywords and use them in their content (especially in the top of the page), titles, page titles, file names, links and meta-tags. But do not stop there. Use in emails, forums, blogs and off-line communication too! Listen to the words used by customers, colleagues and competitors. Refresh your list when new words come and go the old.

Theme and Variations

It is on the topic and stay on topic. If you sell pallets, explore all possible aspects of lollipops (eg, history, colors, different names for pallets, etc..) Spiders dancing on issues. Therefore, the content of your website should be on the topic, like their incoming and outgoing links, articles, reviews and press releases.

Structure: the spine

Have an ordered, logical and consistent for each page and site. Place contents in the lead and ensure that programming (HTML, ASP, etc), graphics and other applications such as Flash, not getting in the way of content. If you have content far from the home page, at the bottom that links to the home page. Also, the use of meta-tags, but do not count them as they have been devalued because of past abuses.

Keeping it fresh

Keep up to date content. Fresh content attracts spiders. If your products or basic services have not changed, think of new variations on the theme demonstrated. Do not go overboard. Track how these changes affect your ranking in search engines and make more changes (including investment) when necessary. You will find the right balance between stability and freshness.

SEO: The Darkside

Be cautious, but not afraid. Certain SEO practices can be labeled as unethical or distasteful. I do not want to be labeled similarly by customers, or the black list of search engines. Stay away from schemes that promise immediate results or the sound of 'spam'. This includes doors, cloaking, keyword stuffing, blog spam, link farming, mirror sites, etc.

Paid search results

Depending on your business model, payment services such as pay-per-click (PPC) may be an option, but first consult with a professional Internet marketing. Also, be aware that users in general "natural" trust search engine listings rather than paid links.

Diligence: Keep SEO

Remember that SEO is a process. Monitor and make adjustments when necessary. Track your search engine rankings. Check out your competitors and see how your keywords and location are changing. Follow their web logs, where you can keep track of search engines. Keep your progress.
