About the Author

Stephen H. Baum has been an advisor and coach to CEOs for more than twenty years, first as a partner with Booz Allen & Hamilton, the global consultancy -- where beyond the client work he was also on the appraisal and development committee and mentored young associates -- then as an independent practitioner. As chair of a Vistage Group of business owners and chief executives engaged in peer-to-peer coaching, Mr. Baum’s role is to facilitate confidential exchange of experience, expertise, approaches to decisions, ideas and resources on issues of critical importance to the members. His one-to-ones with members are private sessions that address the most sensitive and personal issues. Mr. Baum also hosts Inside the CEO, a leadership series comprised of a CEO interview and unscripted student Q&A about the life experiences that prepared leaders to lead. Guests have included Be ard Schwartz (Loral Defense Electronics and Loral Space Communications), Sir Martin Sorrell (WPP), Daryl Brewster (Krispy Kreme Doughnuts), Sam DiPiazza (PriceWaterhouseCoopers), Bob Greifeld (NASDAQ) Mike Critelli (Pitney Bowes). He is a board member of the Actors Studio Drama School, The American Ballroom Theater Company and of Harvard Community Partners (HBS volunteer consulting to not for profits in CT).
