"We all begin with good intent, when love is raw and young. We believe that we can change ourselves, the past can be undone. But we carry on our backs the burden time always reveals. In the lonely light of morning, and the wound that would not heal. It's the bitter taste of loosing everything that I've held so dear."-Sarah McLachlin
The quote above should provide comfort for anyone who is struggling with the possibility of a break up.
Fearing the end of a relationship is not really necessary. Change is scary, but it can also be a good thing. However, if both of you are willing to make compromises then there's a chance that things will work out. Like most other tasks, relationship needs a huge amount of dedication. Keeping the relationship alive means time and energy from both parties. If left alone, relationships would mostly likely shrivel up and die. Otherwise, you might realize that you don't know your own spouse even after 30 years of being together! These are some of the reasons why divorces happen and it's important to understand what could prevent them.
To avoid a break up you have to understand that you can only control yourself. This is the point where you will find yourself getting both frustrated and challenged. We all like to think that we can change our partner's mind into staying, but in reality this was never the case even, in the best of times during the relationship. It's crucial that you also admit doing something wrong that results to the break up.
You can never move forward until you realize the problems, and what your part is in them. When a relationship falls apart, it usually takes the participation of both parties. Ignore pride and tell your partner sorry for doing your part in breaking up the relationship.
Communication is very important if you want to avoid a break up. However, you have to be patient should they be reluctant in talking to you. Patience from you would really be helpful in cases like these. Lastly, never let the break up get in the way of your health.
Talk to other people not involved. Talk to someone who is unrelated to the situation. This may help you view your feelings clearer. You may even realize that you actually want that break up. Also, put on as much physical activity during the ordeal. Push through the feelings and find a healthy outlet for them.
