Technology has been changing from time to time. This change is like an evolution but it is not gradually but rapidly. Awnings are secondary attachments provided on the exteriors of a building especially above window openings and doors or along the side walk. Awnings when added with columns it becomes a canopy. A canopy is able to be extended further from a building as in cases of hotel entrance etc. Canopy is nothing but an overhead roof or a structure over which a fabric covering is attached. It thus serves the same purpose of an awning that is to provide shade and temporary shelter. A canopy is thus a tent without a floor. The word canopy comes from ancient Greek word which means a protecting cover to keep the insects away. Now a day’s canopies are not only used for providing shade or as a wind barricade but they are also used merely for decorative purposes. Canopies are either supported on iron poles or can stand alone.Fabric canopies can serve various design and architectural needs. Modern canopies are long-lasting,brightly colored, strong and easy to clean and are fire resistant. There are different types of canopies. Steel canopy It has a limited one year frame. It is available in different colors of blue, white, red, green and black. Its main feature is its pull-pin technology. It is powder coated. Its height can be adjustable to over a distance of seven feet. Its main advantage is that is requires minimum labor for setting up the canopy. It is not suitable for snow, wind and harsh conditions. The canopy top is made up of fire resistant fabric and the fabric used is 100% UV protected. However it is not fire proof. Aluminum Pop up Canopy It is made up with an industrial aluminum frame. It is durable and offers unpatrolled resistance to salt water and light weight. It is available in green, red, blue, black and white. It has a periscope height controller that allows multiple height adjustments. It allows a height clearance to over a height of sevenfeet. It has D-ring tie downs that offer additional security. However this is also not fire proof and cannot withstand harsh climatic conditions. Also it requires less maintenance and care. Heavy Duty commercial canopy They are also called as Shady canopies. They are made of galvanized steel poles and fittings. The main advantage of these canopies is that they can be assembled for permanent use or can be dismantled and transported to other locations. They are water repellent, fade resistant, acrylic woven. They are also available in different colours of which white and red are most common. Stripped fabric patterns are also used and are fabricated vertically on the canopy.
