Eczema in other terms known as ‘Atopic Dermatitis’ and is characterized by chronically relapsing, inflammatory, non-contagious and extremely pruritic skin disease. With a prevalence of (2-5% in children and young adults approximately 10%), atopic eczema is one of the most commonly seen diseases. Eczema can happen all over the body. It's more common on the hands (especially fingers), the insides of the elbows or back of the knees. rnThe severity of eczema can vary a lot from person to person. People with mild eczema may only have small areas of dry itchy skin. In more severe cases, it can cause widespread red, inflamed skin all over the body that causes constant itching. In some conditions, yellow-white fluid oozes from the body causes the formation of a yellow crust or small yellowish-white spots appear over the skin. rnIn Ayurveda, Eczema is considered to be a type of Kushtha, which is a disease of the skin. Virruddha Ahar causes Agnimandya of patients. The person who is suffering from eczema should have made some changes in their lifestyle so that they can ease their symptoms and also prevent it from severe conditions. We suggested some of the preventive measures that a person should follow –
• The patient should work and sleep in comfortable surroundings with a fairly constant temperature and humidity level.
• Use Aloe Vera Gel regularly to prevent itchiness, burning sensation, redness, etc.
• Wear garments that allow air to pass freely to your skin especially of cotton fabrics. The person should wear open weave, loose-fitting, cotton-blend clothing that may be most comfortable to those with atopic dermatitis.
• Wash all new clothes before wearing them. This will help in removing formaldehyde and other potentially irritating chemicals that are used during production and packing.
• Avoid eating sour, salty, oily, fried foods, and carbonated drinks.
• The patients should do some of the exercises for about 30 minutes daily as it helps in the regulation of blood and improves circulation.
