Badami is a small town located in Karnataka which is renowned across the globe for its rock sculpture and temple architecture. The preserved heritage beauty of this historical site calls on large number of tourists from several parts of the globe. It is situated on the bank of Agastya Lake which increases its scenic charm manifolds. Badami was the capital of Chalukya Dynasty from the 6th to 8th century AD which blessed this place with number of architectural monuments. These monuments are renowned across the globe for its beautiful sculpture, intricate design and decorations. Tourists come here in large number from across the globe to spend their memorable vacations. The well known tourist attractions of Badami are: Cave Temples: rnThe cave temples of Badami are renowned across the globe for its architectural design and decoration. These temples are marvellously carved out of stone which showcases the architectural stupendous of yesteryears. There are in all 4 cave temples at this place. They are situated opposite the Badami fort. Out of these three cave temples are of the Brahmanical style and one built on the the Jain style. These temples can be reached after crossing 2000 steps. While on the way to temples tourists get an opportunity to see serene and scenic natural beauty scattered all around. The first cave temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva in the form Natrajan with eighteen arms. There 81 dancing postures has been carved out of stone which enthrall tourists during their visit. The second and third cave temple is dedicated to the Lord Vishnu. Inside this cave tourists can see several incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The fourth cave is devoted to Jain Thirthankaras. Badami Fort This fort is another popular attraction of Badami where tourists come in large number during their Badami tour. It is situated 2 km away from the city on the hill top. During the visit to these fort tourists gets a bird's eye view of entire surroundings which captivates their attention for long time. The fort is renowned for its large granary, an underground chamber, double fortification walls and several other beautiful structures which encompass the fort. The Malegitti Shivalaya which is one of the oldest temples of this place is visited by large number of devotees as well as tourists throughout the year. Archaeological Museum: The Archaeological Museum at Badami is known for its rich and rare collection of ancient articles. rnThe museum has four galleries where one can see several artefacts which gives great insight regarding the life and culture of yesteryears. The prominent attractions of this museum are Lajja Gauri images of fertility cult, a panel depicting scenes from Bhagwat Gita, beautifully carved Makara Torana and animal dummies. This museum is open between 9 A.M. To 5 P.M. everyday expect Friday.
