People who are sexually active and who regularly engage in a sexual act prefer using contraception for preventing unwanted pregnancy. The two most popular contraception methods used by people are condoms and oral contraceptive pills. These pills are also known as birth control pills. The oral contraceptive pills are supposed to be taken on a regular basis, that is one pill within 24 hours, and at the same time. They are available as as combination pills and mini pills. Combination pills are the pills, which contain two artificial female hormones of oestrogen and progestogen, as their active ingredients. The mini pills, contain only one artificial female hormone of progestogen, as its active ingredient. In spite of this, the mini pills are just as effective as that of combination pills. A combination pill gives you three way protection against pregnancy, by preventing ovulation, thickening the cervical mucus to prevent a sperm from entering your womb, and altering the womb lining, so that an egg cannot grow further. Yasmin combination pill is one of the most popular contraceptive pill and has been proven to be almost 100% effective in its task. It contains ethinylestradiol (oestrogen) and drospirenone (progestogen) as its active ingredient. You can take this birth control pill if you are 18 years old or above and are looking for a long term contraception, with a low dosage. The pill is best effective if it has been taken on the very first day of your menstrual cycle. You need to take this pill for 21 days of your menstrual cycle with 7 pill free days. Ortho Tri-Cyclen is also a popular contraception pill, that falls under the category of combination pills, and is widely used by women. This pill contains ethinylestradiol (oestrogen) and norgestimate (progestogen) as its active ingredient, that help in the prevention of pregnancy. This combination pill also gives you a three way protection against pregnancy. This birth control pill is most effective if taken on the very first day of your menstrual cycle. You need to take this pill for all 28 days of your menstrual cycle. On the last 7 days of your menstrual cycle, 7 hormone free tablets are provided in the pack, and during this time period, you can have your periods. Women who are pregnant or have a doubt that they might be pregnant or are below the age of 18 years, should avoid taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Women who are having coronary artery disease, severe heart valve disorder, high blood pressure, a history of stroke or blood clot, circulation problems, cancers such as breast or uterine cancer, unusual vaginal bleeding, liver disease or liver cancer, severe migraine and a history of jaundice that is caused by pregnancy or birth control pills, should avoid taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen.
