When you get a new pet, you might be surprised by how many things you end up buying for them. Or if you have friends that have pets, their homes may be filled with things for their pets and you might think you need all those things in order to keep your pet happy. The amount of pet supplies you need for your animal depends on what kind of animal you have and what kinds of things you do with it.
There are some pets that are simply basic. Betta fish, for example, only require a bowl to survive. If you have other fish, you might need other things. There are some fish that require a filter or an aerator in order to survive. There are others that also require a heater to keep the water the perfect temperature and some will require plants or toys in order to be able to hide.
Cats have far more complicated needs than fish. You'll need a food bowl and a water bowl. They'll also need something they can scratch. Cats have claws that continue to grow and without a scratching post or a scratching toy of some sort, they will end up finding something else to scratch.
Additionally, cats need a litter box. This is how cats go to the bathroom. There are cats that spend their time both inside and outside and those cats tend to go to the bathroom outside, which reduces the amount of usage of the littler box. There are other options for cats, including climbing toys and beds, but most cats are able to use your furniture to climb and sleep.
Dogs require more than most other animals. Dogs will require, at a minimum, a collar and leash as well as a food and water bowl. However, dogs frequently do not use the furniture for their beds and therefore will also need a bed or something soft to lie on. Depending on the breed of the dog and the climate in your area, they might also need sweaters or jackets in the winter months, or portable water bowls in the summer months to get them through their longer walks.
In addition, dogs will also need to have some grooming as part of their routine. Cats groom themselves, but you will have to bathe your dog yourself. You'll have to find a shampoo that is formulated for dogs. There are several distinct varieties of shampoo available.
There are shampoos designed to help treat flea infestations, and there are some that are for dogs that have sensitive skin. If you have a dog with white or light colored fur, you'll need a shampoo designed to help keep their fur white.
Choosing the pet supplies you need can be simple if you keep it basic.
