Think about this question. What is the first thing that people notice about you when the meet you for the first time? For many people, the first thing that they see on a person is his or her smile. A smile can say so much about a person, so it is important to keep your teeth as pearly white as possible. There are hundreds of different whitening products on the market that promise to make your teeth whiter. Since there are so many different teeth whitening kits and products, it is important to find out which will be the best for you, and which contain the safest chemicals to use in your mouth. There are several different ways that you can purchase teeth whitening kits. One of the main sources for any type of teeth whitening product is through your dentist. Your dentist will be able to tell you which at-home kits are the best and will work for you. He or she may even have different treatments that you can have done while you are in the office for a routine checkup. If you would rather get teeth whitening kits that can be used at home, the dentist will be able to tell you which ones are the most effective and the most cost efficient. Many people choose to purchase teeth whitening kits from either local businesses or online. One thing that you want to make sure of when you are purchasing these products is to check the expiration date. It may seem odd, but these kits do have expiration dates, as the hydrogen peroxide will break down into other chemicals, and will not whiten teeth as effectively. If you plan on storing teeth whitening kits before use, the best place to keep them is in a cool, dark area, where they will not be exposed to sunlight. The package should be sealed to preserve the chemicals from coming in contact with the air. The main chemical in teeth whitening kits is hydrogen peroxide (or carbamide peroxide which breaks down to hydrogen peroxide). The gels that are used are typically between ten and forty four percent hydrogen peroxide, depending on the use and recommended application. Since the extended use of this chemical on the teeth can cause sensitivity, it is important that you follow the recommended application exactly. You never want to overuse this product, as it may case your teeth to look like they are blue, or even transparent. If you have any questions about the recommended use, refer to the packaging or ask your dentist.
