Dogs, regardless of their breed, experience the different kinds of dog skin problems. As such you should become more vigilant when it comes to knowing about them so you can better protect your pet’s health. Allergies are among the common skin problems that dogs face. There are many known causes of allergies and among them can be due to food problems and even by allergens-just as humans typically experience an allergy. This is why you should pay attention to how your dog reacts with the food you feed them. You should also remember to keep your dwelling place clean to prevent allergens such as dust mites from mixing with the air you breathe.

Fleas are just one among the parasite that cause dog skin problems. Another of their kind are ear mites and as the name implies, these parasites reside right inside the dog’s ears. When they are left as they are they could eventually spread to other parts of the body as well as move further deeper into the ear canal. Vets often prescribe medications to treat them.

If you find gray spots on your dog’s skin and know that the dog’s breed is not known for such dots, they might be suffering from ticks. Ticks are also parasites that reside on the dog’s skin, feeding on your pet’s blood. When it worsens, these ticks can give your pet the Lyme disease which can enlarge their lymph nodes and induce loss of appetite.

Even lice are known to cause dog skin problems. Canine lice can be very small and transparent that they would not be seen by the naked eyes. However, once seen they appear to be flattened insects. Because of their wings, they can easily transfer from one host to another which is why dogs often get them as they come in contact with other dogs that already have canine lice.

Fungal infections also cause dog skin problems and not just to people. Parasites also cause them like ringworms and they may reside a little beneath the skin. A symptom of fungal infection would appear as flaky dry skin. The scaly patches of skin that you would find on your dog might also be due to this.

Prevent dog skin problems by regularly having your dog checked up on. You should also make sure that you keep your home clean because parasites can fester on your dogs as they usually lay flat on your floors.
