Parents have the hardest job there is. It is a life full of demands and not many days off. But it is one that most people wouldn't trade for anything in the world. A parent needs all the help they can get and this article can help you along the way. As a parent, we should encourage physical activity in our children. Enjoy physical activity together as a family. Include your children in the planning process of activities you would like to do together. Plant a small garden together. Take a hike on a nature trail in a nearby park. Set an example by participating in physical activities and not sitting on the sidelines. If your toddler is acting up and trying to center every single thing around them, it is important to instill in their mind that they need to wait their turn. If they are being stubborn, it is possible time for them to be given a time out and or reprimanded. When you see something that your child has done well, be specific with your praise. For example, a general praise like "Good job!" sometimes is not as effective as saying "You did a great job putting away all those toys." When you are specific with your description, your child will remember that and will repeat the same good behavior in the future. Install a latch on your toilet lid. Although it seems like a small amount of water, the water in your toilet bowl is enough for a child to drown in. A top-heavy toddler can easily peer into the bowl and tip over and not be able to get out. Keep the lid down and remind any guests to use the latch as well. Every parent has high hopes and expectations for their child, and this is a great thing, but you also need to be realistic with your kids. Let your child know that he or she can be the next President, for example, but make sure they realize that it's a long-shot too. Parents need to teach kids that life is about options. Parenting can be one of life's greatest joys and one of life's greatest stresses. If you are finding that time outs and other punishments are not working with your young child try saying "The next time you(fill in the blank) I am going to take away all of your toys." If the child commits the infraction again, take the toys away. They will earn them back with good behavior, one by one. They will not forget this punishment and keep it fresh in their minds so all you have to do is merely threaten it. When you have a newborn many people say that if you pick them up or hold them too much this can lead to a spoiled child. This is not true, it is perfectly acceptable for a parent to hold their newborn a lot and it is encouraged at a young age. It true, just like the article stated in the beginning, parents do have the hardest job there is. But it is also filled with rewards and benefits along the way. But all parents can use some help and by utilizing the information in this article, it can make your life that much easier.
