Call it a unique hobby, valuable side business or practical full-time occupation; beekeeping has been practiced for over 15,000 years and there are more than many reasons why people loved it and will continue loving it. This article outlines the major benefits of beekeeping. Read on and if you are a beekeeper, don’t forget to share your knowledge by adding a comment.

A really pleasing hobby
We start by mentioning what most urban beekeepers relate to. That is beekeeping is a pleasure hobby that relaxes and as well as earns reward. This is perhaps one of the most beneficial hobbies that get you actual result besides pleasing your soul. You not only help an organism that needs care but also help the environment and encourage other people to replicate the same.

Hive products that mean money
Long before cane sugar arrived, honey was the primary sweetener. So, keeping bees has been lot more than simply a hobby. The different types of bee colonies are kept to collect hive products, which necessarily include royal jelly, pollens, beeswax etc. By practicing the art, you can also make a small business of your own and stay sure of steady flow of good income if you can grow more and more bees. Sell the liquid gold called honey and other product, or just train others how to grow. Either way, you get something.

Grow them for foods we eat daily
Bees are an integral part of pollination. Without them, farmers would experience decline in crop production since these beneficial creatures help produce almost one third of the world’s total food supply. Yes, other insects share the pie too, but bees carry out most of the pollination job. So, a world without them is most likely to be a world half-fed, well almost!

Why only reward? Care because they need care
However, reasons for keeping them go beyond just the material rewards for an informed beekeeper. The population of bee colonies is dramatically reducing because of climate change, habitat destruction, mites, fungus, electromagnetic radiation and more significantly application of pesticides. Read Colony Collapse Disorder: Bees at Stake where we discussed why bees are disappearing emphasising the evil effects pesticides are showing over honey bees. By keeping them in safe home, you can help them grow and save them from being lost in the history books.

It is so relaxing
Many beekeepers believe the practice is rewarding for its relaxing nature. Working with the bees is like working close with the nature and valuing its importance. You get to learn something every day which opens up new avenues of knowledge which when shared with others, a whole community is benefited.

To conclude, beekeeping doesn’t cost you enough space. You need hives to let them grow which can be set up in small spaces.
