Each week, select one of these tips to focus on. You might jot the affirmation down onto an index card, so you can review the affirmation often throughout the day, to help you stay on track.
“This week I will remember to maintain my peace and poise, understanding that I place my child in charge when he or she can make me react, and that in true peace and poise I have the clearest judgment and enjoy the blessed opportunity of parenting my child.”
“This week I will remember that what my child needs more than information is the enthusiasm for life-long learning, based on the understanding that the more a child wants to learn, the more the child will learn. To transmit this positive energy I will remain focused on what I find enthralling about the lessons I attempt to convey to my child.”
“This week, I will remember that the quality of the relationship between parents and children has a powerful influence upon how children behave. I will work on cultivating a more deeply loving relationship with my child, based on the fact that for children to behave as well as they can, they need to feel great about their relationship with their parents.”
Following three weeks of implementing the above parenting tips for child behavior management, you might take one week off from reading these and just do your best. This will help you maintain the freshness of your work. Then, recommence your practice with the following:
“This week, my parenting guide will be the idea of “The Open Door”. I will remember that for each child there is an open door, a way to reach and teach that child without a struggle I will therefore avoid all power-struggles and waste no effort in opposition to any resistance my child confronts me with. I will patiently, calmly and confidently seek the open door.”
“This week, based on the understanding that how I see my child operates as a self-fulfilling prophecy, I will carefully watch the way that I envision my child. I will see her as skillful, giving, successful and compassionate, as happy, secure, intelligent and responsible. I will avoid dwelling on anxious visions that portray my child as disappointing or disturbing.”
“This week, my parenting guide will be the idea that how I react to my child is a way that I impact myself. When I recognize flare-ups of my anger or stress, I will determine to calm myself down, and to remember to remain calm the next time that something similar occurs. This will make my daily parenting experiences easier and help me to avoid drain and strain.”
After 3 weeks of implementing these parenting tips, take a week off and then begin your practice over again. To make this work more effective, record your experiences in a parenting journal.
