Magento is the world’s biggest ecommerce platform which has been chosen by over 200,000 retailers world-wide, ranging from small start-ups to the likes of Fred Perry, Harvey Nichols, Warby Parker and many more. Magento was only officially released in 2008 but it quickly gained traction and became one of the biggest open source eCommerce platforms on the market. In 2011, Magento was acquired by eBay. Out-of-the-box feature set. Magento handles concepts properly and in an organized manner. Stock Magento comes with Simple, Configurable, Grouped, Bundled, Virtual and Digital Products. You can use it to sell amusement park tickets and digital music at the same time, without any extensions. M-commerce is well considered in this platform. From a user perspective, mobile-optimised versions of the website allow easy account management on the go. From a client conversion perspective, Magento automatically detects if customers are viewing stores via mobile browsers. It then displays mobile-optimised versions of either the full site catalog, or a smaller selection of products tailored for mobile customers. ‘Magento SEO’ has solved multiple issues by facilitating better optimization of e-commerce site. Page traffic, duplicate content, landing page, indexing, etc are efficiently managed for a website developed on Magento. Architecture. Although it may seem over-architected , never before have I worked with a system powerful enough to meet my every need. Magento is built to scale from 1 to a million, avoiding common pitfalls for developers. Code re-use, maintainability, debugging, support, etc. are all huge, expensive problems that eCommerce solutions providers must tackle. Magento makes them all a breeze. –Magento Enterprise – premium version which offers more functionality that adds value to enterprise-level retailers. This version of Magento is very expensive and is not necessarily the best option for mid-level retailers. –Magento Community – the free version of Magento, which is used by the majority of Magento users. Community has lots of great features and is suitable for most retailers. –Magento Go – Magento Go is their hosted solution, which is similar to popular platform, Shopify. Magento Go is more suited to smaller retailers but does allow for users to upgrade. Disadvantages of Magento: 1.Though being an Open Source system it offers you the liberty of customization, however possess a high standard of structured programming, based on Zend framework. Simultaneously, in order to incorporate complicated customizations, you need a more complex and heavy layered coding for which you might need to hire a professional. 2.Being Magento a very robust system to run properly also requires a more robust server, large disk space and memory which is usually available in VPS, Dedicated Server or Cloud Server. 3.If you think about developing your online store in Magento or servicing within your organization through a PHP programmer, the system has a very long learning curve compared to other open source systems, although based on PHP programming, given the complexity of the system. 4.The most negative aspect I see in Magento, is that even if you meet the requirements of robustness server, there is still a risk of the system being slow depending on the database which may affect your search engine rankings as page loading speed is one of the most important factor of Google algorithm. To get more information visit : Magento Manchester
