There are a surprising number of benefits of fish oil supplements. They have exploded in popularity in recent years, due in part to the mastery of certain processes that root out all of the toxins in the oil, leaving behind just the Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids.

You have to keep in mind that your body is only as good as the sum of its parts. Every “part” in your body needs nutrients and specific vitamins and minerals in order to be at its peak function. For example, if you avoid all meat and don’t supplement with other protein, you’ll get too thin and look haggard because the body needs protein for skin, tissue, muscles, etc. Or, with teeth and bones, if you never get your calcium and vitami
D, you’ll have poorer dental health and a greater risk of osteoporosis.

The same holds true for Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids. They’re referred to as “essential fatty acids” because your body needs them to run optimally. If you go decades with a deficiency of Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids, you will be much more likely to develop some sort of chronic disease. So, what exactly are the benefits of fish oil supplements?

First of all, they contai
DHA, which is a critical component of your brain. You can actually be smarter thanks to fish oil supplements! It also helps by improving your cholesterol, lowering your triglycerides, keeping your blood thin (which in turn helps you to avoid a heart attack or stroke), serving as an anti-inflammatory supplement, and more. Even with all of the benefits of fish oil supplements, you need to remember that it is still just a supplement.

In other words, all of the other essential nutrients that you get from foods––the vitamins, minerals, calcium, iron, potassium, sodium, etc.––are still required. The fish oil supplements do not take the place of all of these essential nutrients, nor does fish oil fulfill the same role as those other nutrients. If you want to have good overall health and help yourself avoid a number of inflammatory conditions, that’s what fish oil is good for.

That also means that you need to minimize your intake of junk food, do some light to moderate exercise a few times per week, keep your stress at a minimum, and get enough sleep. This might be a tall order for most of us, but keep in mind that the body is a system that requires more than just one thing. Plugging in the benefits of fish oil supplements can do wonders for your body, but just don’t think that if you start taking them, you don’t have to worry about any of those other aspects of overall health.

However, if you do have a reasonable diet, you exercise sometimes, and you try to get enough sleep and lower your stress, there is no reason why you can’t enjoy a much higher quality of life and reach your full potential, thanks to the amazing benefits of fish oil supplements.
