We face many things that contribute to wrinkled, lined and diseased skin. While most of these things are obvious, we must strive to maintain balance in our lives. Some of these causes are:
  1. Stress and Anxiety. This is a big one. Everyone has some stress. Some have more than others. How we deal with it determines not only our skin condition but overall health. Stress can affect the other conditons below.
  2. Poor diet. You have heard the old cliche " You are what you eat" . Your skin reflects what you eat.
  3. Lack of exercise. Exercise causes circulation which brings oxygen, nutrients, and removes dead skin cells and toxins from the skin. Most people who exercise regularly have a nice redish glow to their skin.
  4. Hormonal Imbalance. Skin conditions many times reflect other health problems like thyroid imbalances. Always check with your doctor if conditions like moles, dark spots or warts appear.
  5. Refined sugar and processed carbohydrates. Did you know that eating refined sugar causes a condition called glycation in the skin. Glycation is a process that actually destroys the protein cells in our skin.
  6. Environmental Toxicity. If you work around solvents, paints, gasolines or other harsh chemicals always wear the prescribed safety equipment to minimize your exposure to chemicals. Chemicals can damage your skin.
  7. Bowel toxicity. Did you know the average american has 7 to 25 pounds of fecal matter stored in their colons. YUCK! Sobering and gross is'nt it? If you feel you have this condition there is help. Don't risk it! More and more cases of melanoma cancer are appearing on young people from the use of tanning beds.
  10. It is important to note that the Sun is a good source of Vitamin D. Twenty minutes of exposure to the sun from dawn to 10:00 AM or from 04:00 PM to dusk is safe. UV rays bounce off the atmosphere at this angle of incidence minimizing UV radiation.
  11. Heredity. Some conditions are hereditary. However with good health pratices and nutrition, You can avert a lot of problems.
  12. Smoking. Smoking causes vascular constriction which minimizes good circulation. Have you ever noticed blue colored veins on the face of an individual who smokes.
While minimizing all the above conditions will improve your skin condition, I would be totally amiss in not mentioning the most important element of skin health.
